Leon’s Campaigning Record
New Worksop Bus Station
Since getting involved in local politics, Leon has been at the forefront of working for a new Bus station for Worksop. Leon explained, “This was the issue raised with us as soon as I started campaigning for the Lib Dems. The lack of a proper bus station in the town is a disgrace. Those who have been on the District & county Councils all these years without sorting out a new bus station should be ashamed.” Leon was instrumental in holding meeting with Stagecoach & the public to discuss to problem and to find possible solutions. It was his petition (started weeks before John Mann copied the idea) that got the issue noticed by the Councils and the project off the ground.
Empty Houses in Bassetlaw
Going around campaigning, Leon noticed that there were far too many house being left empty. “Delivering leaflets all year round meant I could see that some houses were left empty not just for a few weeks but sometimes for months & even years. When we have families on the Council Waiting List desperate for a home to move into, this is a terrible waste”. By asking question at Council meeting, Leon brought this to the attention of Councillors and also that the Coalition had given Council new powers in this area. “Now, when I go around, it is good to see that some of the house that had been empty for a long time are being brought back into us as family homes. However there are still too many houses being left empty and the District Council need to work harder on this”.
Pot Holes!
As a driver, Leon knows the damage that pot holes causes and will always
report any he sees to Nottinghamshire County Council. "I realise that the
County Council can't check every road in the County, so we as residents
need to help them." Leon makes use of the Road Pothole reporting page
on the County Council website and hopes other will also make use of this.
