Yannie & Leon have brought up 2 sons & a daughter here in Worksop, all three attending local schools before going on to study at University.   Yannie also has studied part time for a foundation degree in the last few years while working as a domestic cleaner and later as a Youth & Family worker for the Methodist Church in Sheffield.

Leon has always been interested in politics and a supporter of the Lib Dems but the result of the 2010 General Election convinced him to join the party and turn that support into action.  He has stood in council elections every year since then and for the last few years acted as campaign manager for the local party.

Leon was a parent governor at his children’s school for many years and has been active in other community groups such as Fairtrade for Bassetlaw & more recently in helping to set up Bassetlaw Against Fracking.

Leon was born & grew up in London.  After leaving school at 16, he worked in Sainsbury & then as a Civil Servant at the Department of the Environment.

When he was 22, he emigrated to Israel to live on Kibbutz Mishmar David where he worked in the vineyards, the orchards and with the dairy herd.  He was also conscripted into the Israeli Army for 18 months compulsory service.  Later he moved to Kibbutz Harel and worked as a shepherd.   While on Mishmar David, he met Yannie, his future wife, and they were married in 1986.

In 1987, they moved back to the UK, living initially in London and then Luton before coming up to live in Worksop in 1989.  Leon worked as a delivery driver and taxi driver before deciding to return to study.  He enrolled as a mature student at Sheffield City Polytechnic (latter Sheffield Hallam University) and graduated with a degree in Mathematical Sciences in 1994.

He then worked as a Software Engineer, first at a small software house near Huddersfield and then, after that company went into liquidation, with larger multinational company providing IT solutions to hospitals across the country.  For the last year, Leon has been self-employed as an IT contractor to a large London hospital.

About Leon

Having known both good times and bad times, when struggling to get through to his next pay day & still make sure there is enough food for his family, Leon brings a wealth of experience of life as an ordinary working person.  He hopes to use that experience to help his fellow residents of Bassetlaw as their representative at Westminster.
